Afghanistan Vs Pakistan cricket series in sri lanka: How prevailing turmoil situation in Afghanistan would affect it

Is there uncertainty about the Afghanistan vs Pakistan match series in Sri Lanka?

The Afghanistan cricket team has started its final training session for the upcoming Pakistan tournament. The Afghanistan Cricket Institute said on its Facebook page. The tournament is scheduled to be held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota, Sri Lanka, which is due on 3rd September, following a three-day quarantine period on arrival for both sides. The Afghan Cricket Board announced that they have started training in Kabul. All these occur under a political crisis in which the Taliban has seized control of Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had stated that the players would leave for Sri Lanka to play in the relevant tournament, which consists of three matches between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Amid uncertainties, ACB CEO Hamid Shinwari has made a statement to the media that the scheduled series tour with Pakistan in Sri Lanka would occur according to the early arrangements. “Crickets are doing very well,” Shinwari told ESPNcricinfo earlier this week. “We are going to the office (ACB). The cricket team is preparing for the Pakistan series in Sri Lanka. It is confirmed. We are committed to sending a team to Sri Lanka as soon as possible. There is a transition going on in Afghanistan as there is a vacuum in flight operations and flight availability is affected. But we will fly out as soon as we find a flight. We have our boys assembled in Kabul and they are preparing for the series. “

A contingency plan has been implemented by the ACB to make this scheduled match series a success. Therefore, the reach of the Afghan team to Sri Lanka would be through Pakistan and Dubai. With the decision made by the Pakistani officials to provide relevant visas to the Afghan team, the next challenge for the ACB is to get a business flight for the team to reach Sri Lanka. Due to a vacuum in flight operations and flight availability in Afghanistan under this political turmoil situation, the arrival of the Afghan team to Sri Lanka is going through strenuous efforts in the prevailing situation.

Preparation of Sri Lanka for the match series

The ODI series is scheduled to begin on the 1st at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota. Former Sri Lankan cricketer and coach Avishka has said that the Afghanistan cricket team has started its final training camp for the upcoming Pakistan tournament. The Taliban have announced that they will commence training in Sri Lanka. The former Sri Lanka cricketer and coach Avishka Gunawardena will be the batting coach of the Afghanistan team during the tournament, which is scheduled to begin at the Rajapaksa Stadium, the Afghanistan Cricket Institute had stated earlier. However, the announcement has been removed from the Facebook page of the Afghanistan Cricket Institute.
