Dubai Expo 2020


With the long-delayed Expo 2020 Dubai finally underway, the UAE has declared that it has overcome the Covid-19 crisis, reporting the lowest number of daily infections since the summer of 2020.The announcement is a boost for both the Expo organizers and the more than 190 countries that are using their pavilions at the Middle East’s first world fair to highlight their most important tourist attractions, discoveries, and ambitions.

Expo 2020 Dubai, which will run until March 31, 2022, is themed ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future.’ It exemplifies what is possible when we use our imagination to address global challenges such as climate change, conflict, and economic growth. It also continues the tradition of displaying culture, architecture, and cutting-edge technology from around the world.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will provide a significant platform for people to connect, discuss, and work together,” said His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UA E Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and the Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai. On our 50th anniversary, we will send a message of tolerance, coexistence, and peace from the UAE to the world; a message of progress, prosperity, and growth; a message of brotherhood and happiness; and an unwavering commitment to building a better future for all. “The Expo, which spans a 438-hectare (1,083-acre) area, is portrayed as a gathering place where the world comes together to create a better tomorrow.

The extravagant fireworks ceremony, a fantastic audio-visual display, and world-class performances from renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli, Grammy-nominated, Golden Globe-winning actress, singer, and songwriter Andra Day, platinum-selling British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, international pianist Lang Lang, and four-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo took place at the Al Wasl Plaza dome. Audiences were captivated by this one-of-a-kind event, which was also projected in public spaces throughout the UAE and streamed live to screens in New York’s Times Square.

This is the first time a world fair has been held in the Middle East. With over 192 countries represented, the world will witness the power of connections as well as how unique architecture and culture can inspire innovation. In addition, for the first time in World Expo history, each participating country will have its own pavilion. Partner pavilions were created to showcase the future through innovation and world-class expertise, and organization pavilions were created for international organizations to presen China hopes to take center stage among visitors by showcasing more than 5,000 years of civilization crowned by recent technological advances. The event will be surrounded by three large thematic districts: Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. Sri Lanka will have a specially designed and dedicated pavilion with a 300 square meter space in the Expo Village’s ‘Opportunity District.’ The pavilion, which has a water-themed theme, was designed by a team from the University of Moratuwa and was recognized as one of the best designs at Expo 2020 Dubai, resulting in the Expo organizers building the Sri Lankan pavilion for free.

Sri Lanka Tourism has created a collision in presenting Sri Lanka as strong and vibrant at Expo 2020 Dubai in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Embassy in the UAE and the Consulate in Dubai, the Gem and Jewelry Authority, Export Development Board, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Laksala, Board of Investment, Port City, Sri Lankan Airlines, and the National Chamber of Exporters. A government tender process selected Fun Time Events and VFS Global as Event Management Partners.
A Trade and Investor Forum will be hosted by the BOI, a Tea Tasting and Trade Forum will be hosted by the Tea Board, and a Travel and Tourism Forum will be hosted by the Sri Lankan delegation. These forums are expected to bring Sri Lanka trade and investment opportunities, as well as opportunities for the country’s industry to grow.
